“Great thoughts speak only to a thoughtful mind, but great actions speak to all humankind.” It has long been said that actions speak louder than words, most people agree with this without question. It is one thing to say something intelligent, deep, or intellectual, however it’s another thing to act on those thoughts and opinions. After all, John Lennon would have not accomplished everything he did, if all he did was speak his mind but do nothing about it. There comes a time in people’s lives where they become tired of listening to people talk and want to see them act. If you want to make a difference, act and don’t speak.
You’re driving along after a snow storm on a cold winter’s day. You see an old man slowly shoveling his driveway. What’s going to help him? You thinking to yourself, someone should help that old man with his driveway, or you acting on those thoughts and helping him yourself. All the well intentioned thoughts in the world, no matter how nice, loving, caring or kind cannot bring about a positive change. Anyone can sit around and express his opinion about how this should change or what should be done in a given situation, however not just anyone can act on their opinion and actually do something about the way they feel.
Take John Lennon for example. He was the greatest revolutionary of his time. He changed the way many americans looked at politics, music, and life. Not in a million years could he have done this by simply thinking about the way he felt. His actions are what made him what history will remember him as. His actions are what shook the world. His actions will be remembered long after his thoughts and feelings. Actions speak louder than words.
Take into consideration now, Martin Luther King Jr. He led the civil rights movement further than anyone else and brought about great change in this country. What if he had just been like every other african american of his day and just quietly disagreed with the way things were and the way his people were treated. What if he was like everyone else and just stood quietly by every injustice and hate crime that took place. Nothing would have been accomplished and history could have turned out very different.
Being bold and making a difference is not for the timid and weak. History has showed us that it takes great bravery and courage to take a stand and express your opinion. In a world where actions speak far louder than words, it takes a strong leader to act and bring about change. There are two types of people in this world, people who think, and people who do. “Great thoughts speak only to a thoughtful mind, but great actions speak to all humankind.”
